College-Wide Instructional Commitments
To inform faculty members in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences of the policy that governs College-Wide Instructional Commitments.
Faculty members in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences supports a number of College-wide and interdisciplinary efforts that require commitments on the part of units to offer certain courses or, in some cases, to assign faculty to teach courses for other programs. The courses offered in other programs may be cross-listed with the faculty members’ home department. Among these College-wide efforts are courses for the University Honors Program, courses on the Edwards Campus, and courses in several other interdisciplinary degree programs in the College.
In a continuing effort to create a dialogue with departments and programs, the College will assemble a list of needed course offerings from various units in the College. Near the beginning of each academic year, the College will provide this list to those units who might offer these courses the following academic year. Department chairs and program directors will meet with their contact Associate Dean and discuss the units’ offering of these courses the following year. In some cases, the College may provide funds to cover courses offered in these College-wide efforts or funds to cover the courses normally taught by the faculty members who are assigned to these efforts. Final decision about which faculty are assigned to these efforts or which courses are offered by departments to support these efforts rests with the Dean of the College.
