KU Card Center - Obtaining the KU Card

Policy
Purpose: 

To provide instructions to obtain the KU Card, which is the official University of Kansas identification card.

Applies to: 

Students, Faculty, Staff, and other members of the KU community on the Lawrence campus and its reporting units

Policy Statement: 

For the first student card:

Students must be enrolled to be eligible to receive a KU Card. If you are a student attending New Student Orientation, you will have your photo taken prior to enrollment, but the card will not be issued until after you enroll.

  • Bring a valid, government-issued photo ID. One of the following will be accepted (no exceptions): driver's license, passport, military ID, State ID, or green card. The Card Center staff reserves the right to accept or reject any form of identification.
  • Your official name, as it appears in the university student records system, will print on your card. The name on the photo ID you present to the Card Center staff for verification must match.
  • Bring your class schedule (if available).
  • $15 will be charged to your student account for tuition and fee assessment, this fee is subject to change.

For the first staff, faculty, or affiliate card:

  • Faculty may be issued their KU Card in advance of their appointment start date if the offer letter has been signed and entered into the HR Payroll system.
  • Unclassified professional staff and university support staff may be issued their KU Card on the start date of their appointment, if their data has been entered into the HR Payroll system.
  • Bring a valid, government-issued photo ID. One of the following will be accepted (no exceptions): driver's license, passport, military ID, State ID, or green card. The Card Center staff reserves the right to accept or reject any form of identification.
  • Your official name, as it appears in the university payroll system, will print on your card. The name on the photo ID you present to the Card Center staff for verification must match.
