Plaques and Gifts within the Campus Landscape

Policy
Purpose:

All prospective gifts of materials or objects for the campus landscape.

Applies to:

University of Kansas, Lawrence, Edwards, and Yoder Campuses.

Campus:
Edwards
Lawrence
Yoder
Policy Statement:

The University appreciates gifts that add to the beauty of the campus landscape; however, these gifts must fit within the goals of the campus master plans and uphold the University’s standards and reputation. All inquiries about gifts and memorials such as benches, landscape materials, etc. should be directed to the Assistant Vice President for University Development at the KU Endowment Association, who will consult with the Vice Chancellor for Strategic Communications and Public Affairs.

As a general rule the University does not use individual plaques or signs to provide gift, donor, or memorial information within the campus landscape.

However, in the event the University is given a large donation to fund installation or improvement of specific landscape feature(s) or landscape area(s), or a number of individuals donate above a designated amount for a landscape project or landscape feature, signage may be added to recognize the donor or group of donors in a location proximate to the area. Recognition signage must be reviewed and approved by the Vice Chancellor for Strategic Communications and Public Affairs.

A “Gifts and Memorials” map will list all specific donations within the campus landscape and will include the location and memorial information. This map can be accessed on the Office of Facilities Planning and Development and KU Endowment websites. Representatives of Facilities Planning and Development will meet annually with representatives of the KU Endowment Association to update the Gifts and Memorials map.

Requests to relocate or remove gifts, memorials, or associated signage and plaques should be submitted to the Office of Public Affairs at publicaffairs@ku.edu.
