To articulate the standards and procedures for promotion for Teaching Professors in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

1 Promotion
 
EECS will follow the School of Engineering Rules and Regulations on Promotion. In addition, EECS establishes the following department criteria. The following criteria are exemplar and not definitive. The EECS Department conducts an annual evaluation for all Teaching Professors as described in the EECS Teaching Professor Evaluation Plan. When considering Teaching Professors for Promotion, the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science considers the following: (1) Does the candidate contribute to the teaching mission of the department? (2) Does the candidate provide quality advising and mentoring to undergraduate students? (3) Has the candidate provide service to the university and the discipline? (4) Has the candidate contributed to the overall success of the department?
 
1.1 Criteria for Promotion to Associate Professor
For promotion to Associate Teaching Professor, the department expects that the candidate is an effective classroom teacher and student advisor and mentor, and demonstrated service to the Department, School, University or the profession at large.
 
Teaching: Candidates for promotion to Teaching Associate Professor are expected to have demonstrated effective teaching at undergraduate and/or graduate levels.
 
Scholarship: It is the department’s expectation that the candidate should contribute to course transformation efforts or assessment or conduct and present research on teaching and learning and/or typical disciplinary scholarship.
 
Service: Candidates for promotion to Teaching Associate Professor are expected to demonstrate effective student advising and mentoring of undergraduate students. Teaching Professors are also expected to perform service to the department’s constituent communities: the department, the School of Engineering, the University, the State, the Nation, and the profession.
 
1.2 Criteria for Promotion to Professor
An Associate Teaching Professor in EECS considered for promotion to Teaching Professor has demonstrated leadership roles in the department, the school, the University, engineering/computer science educational community, and/or the nation. Leadership in course transformation efforts or assessment or performing and disseminating of research results on teaching and learning and/or typical disciplinary scholarship is expected. The candidate must continue to meet the criteria of the department described above.
 
Teaching: Candidates for promotion to Teaching Professor should demonstrate a sustained record of teaching excellence, innovation in the classroom and curricula, and leadership in developing the department and its curricula.
 
Scholarship: Candidates for promotion to Teaching Professor should demonstrate a sustained commitment to course transformation efforts or assessment or performing and disseminating research results on teaching and learning and/or typical disciplinary scholarship.
Service: Candidates for promotion to Teaching Professor have demonstrated sustained commitment to advising and mentoring undergraduate students. Providing leadership service in the department, the school, the University, and/or the nation. Typical activities are to take leadership roles on service committees including editorial boards, conferences, review panels, task forces or workshop panels, or serving at a federal or international agency.
