Undergraduate and Graduate Co-Enrollment
To define how undergraduates with very strong academic records may co-enroll as graduate students at KU during the semester that they complete their baccalaureate degree.
Undergraduate Students
Undergraduate students with very strong academic records may be eligible to co-enroll as graduate students at KU during the semester they complete all requirements for their baccalaureate programs. In order to be eligible, students must be completing a baccalaureate program at KU or at a college or university with an established co-enrollment partnership.
Additional eligibility criteria are as follows.
- Enrollment in the final requirements for a baccalaureate degree during the semester of co-enrollment;
- Cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale;
- Application and admission as a degree- or certificate-seeking graduate student at KU; and
- Permission of the graduate division of the school or college offering the student's graduate coursework.
- Students requesting the privilege of co-enrollment must make a formal request through the graduate affairs office of the appropriate school or college.
In order to earn graduate credit through co-enrollment, the student must earn undergraduate credit at their home undergraduate institution for at least one (1) class during the co-enrollment semester. For KU undergraduates, online and on-ground credit-bearing courses on the Lawrence and Edwards campuses may be used to satisfy this requirement.
Duration
If the baccalaureate degree is not completed by the end of the co-enrollment semester, the student will not be permitted to enroll in courses for graduate credit until the baccalaureate degree has been conferred. After one (1) semester, students are not eligible for further co-enrollment and their graduate admission will be retracted.
Approval Procedure
The Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Graduate Studies will review proposals for co-enrollment partnerships and present them to the Executive Council of Graduate Faculty on the consent agenda, facilitating discussion at the Council's discretion.
